Aromatherapy Massage

Aromatherapy massage is a treatment which works wonders. It improves mental and physical states, and even helps to tackle some health problems. Aromatherapy has a powerful overall effect on our emotional, mental & physical state, all through the sense of smell.  Aromatherapy massage is performed in a series of smooth movements, these movements used along with application of essential oils work to affect your mood and alleviate pain. These oils are added in with the massage lotion or oil and applied directly to your skin.

How does aromatherapy massage work?

Application of essential oils directly to the skin allows to hydrate and regenerate it.  It also calms the mind and releases muscle tension.  Some oils contain the elements which also work to release the fluids and stimulate blood flow.  The scent of the oils are also effectively used when inhaled.

Your nostrils are attached to a part of the brain called the limbic system. The limbic system controls emotions and influences the nervous system and hormones.  When you inhale essential oil molecules, messages are transmitted to the limbic system and affect heart rate, stress level, blood pressure, breathing, memory, digestion, and the immune system. Oil scents have a positive influence on nervous system. The brain is being affected by the scents though the inhalation process. This explains why aromatherapy releases stress and anxiety, reduces digestive problems and headaches, and even improves the quality of sleep. Essential oils are also absorbed through the skin.

Each essential oil has different healing properties. For example, some calm while others energize. When aromatherapy oils with unique properties are blended with others in a synergistic way, a “fusion” is created.  Each blend is combined to produce specific aromatherapy effects.  Tocar spa offers the following blends to our clients:

  • Calming: Breathe deep and exhale slowly. Chamomile, bergamot and lavender combine to help you find peace and calm.
  • Relaxing: Lavender, Tangerine, Clary Sage
  • Energizing: Rosemary, Lime, Carrot Seed
  • Respiration: Lime, Peppermint, Eucalyptus

General Precautions:
Aromatherapy Massage is not recommended for situations:

  • Essential oils are contra-indicated during pregnancy and breast-feeding
  • External Use only, never ingest
  • Keep oils away from eyes and mucous membranes.
  • Some oils can cause sensitization or allergic reactions in some individuals. When using a new oil for the first time, do a skin patch test on a small area of skin
  • Keep away from children and pets
  • Essential oils are flammable Keep away from flames
